80 Degrees

It was a beautiful summer day here, a nice bit of warmth and sunshine in an otherwise cold and rainy April. I'm a little behind on posting pictures, and quite a few things are in bloom now.

I cleared out the pool bed today and the scilia are in bloom:

Out front we have a bunch of stuff in bloom. Everything looks blue here due to the iPhone pictures in full sun. I'll use the regular camera moving forward, these are mostly purple in reality.

Grape hyacinth:

Regular hyacinth purchased at Walmart last year (not so great):

Anemone, first year for these and they're great:

Evening primrose. I planted 3 of these last year and this is the only survivor:

White daffodils in desperate need of division:

Yellow daffs near the road:

Color at Last!

It's SO nice to finally see a touch of color in the gardens. Our snow is all melted and the trees are budded and getting ready to leaf out. Yay!

The crocus are in full swing:

And the dwarf iris I planted in the new driveway bed just opened up today. I have 3 more groups about to open:

Since it almost hit 80 degrees this weekend, I bought a couple of packs of pansies. I've got them in the window box out back and in the pool bed, and here they are on the front steps:

John's 40th birthday party was a complete bust due to Nate getting a horrible stomach flu. But here are some pictures of the awesome cake I made him. It's a 3-layer chocolate with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and chocolate peanut butter ganache (I made this 2 years ago as well):
